Astigmatism is cured through Toric Contact Lenses
Toric contact lenses for astigmatism, glasses for astigmatism, correction for astigmatism
Toric contact lens is one of the remedy for astigmatism. The material
used to manufacture these lenses is same as that of the regular contact
lenses, thus, they are either GP or soft lenses. The only difference between
the two is the design.
The toric contacts have two powers that are formed with curvatures at
diverse angles. They are set according to the requirement. Lenses for
astigmatism have a different angle where as the angles of the curvatures
are different for hyperopia or myopia. The toric contact lens is so created
that it stays intact on the eye after blinking. They do not rotate on
the eye in order to provide a crisp vision.
The toric contacts are costlier than the regular contact lenses because
of their fittings. A toric lens can take more time and expertise of the
eye care professional for fitting than the regular ones. They are even
costlier than the spherical contact lenses.
Another Alternative for Astigmatism
A regular soft or gas permeable lens is a good option for astigmatism
rating between 0 and 1 diopter. The rigidity of the gas permeable lens
covers the requirement for the correction of astigmatism. Through these
lenses, the cornea will come into shape up to a certain extent. If you
are using soft contact lenses, the eye care practitioner will choose a
high power regular soft lens to correct the small astigmatism. This completely
varies from patient to patient because the need if every person is different
from the other. And this is the reason why the doctor as well as the patient
takes time in the fitting process of the lenses.
There are some contact lenses that reduce the spherical deviation of
your eye. These lenses may be beneficial for few people suffering from
astigmatism without the use of toric lenses.
Difference between Toric and Spherical Lenses
The main difference between the toric contact lens and the spherical
contact lens is that the spherical one consists of a single power. So
any rotation of the lens is allowed. But in case of toric lenses, there
are two different powers and therefore the lens needs to remain at its
position to give the best visual correction to the astigmatism patients.
Few people are comfortable with gas permeable toric lens. It is because
the rigidity of the lens helps maintain the shape on the surface of the
eye than the soft lenses. It provides a crisper vision to the patients
with astigmatism.
