The extended wear lens is back with advancement. They are better than
the ones used earlier. Few contact lenses are worn for in the day time
and are removed before going to bed. They are known as daily wear contact
lens. But the extended wear contacts are those which you can wear even
while sleeping. They are specially made for those who prefer waking up
with a clear vision.
The FDA of the United States of America has permitted few contact lenses
that are to be worn daily and the rest are the extended wear. Even FDA
has understood that the extended wear contact lenses permit extra oxygen

But these extended wears have some limitations. According to the approval
of FDA an extended wear lens can be worn for a maximum period of seven
days constantly. But the newer soft lenses made of silicone hydrogel can
be worn for thirty days without removing it. There are even few gas permeable
lenses that can be worn almost for a month. These lenses are known as
“continuous wear”.
These improved extended wears can be worn for a month without any difficulty.
They are safe for your eyes.
The earlier version of the extended wear lenses were not preferred because
they had the high risk of getting contaminated and therefore causing eye
infections. These infections were the result of problems related with
wearing lenses during the night. There was a high chance of lenses getting
contaminated because of your fingers or any other means that could ultimately
affect your eye.
The use of contact lenses during the night reduced the oxygen level required
by the eyes to remain healthy, therefore, the eyes do not enough ability
to fight infections caused from fungi or bacteria or any other organism.
But today with the improved extended wear lenses the eyes of the people
are safer. The doctors even recommend them to the patients. All the problems
that were related to the older version are now solved with the new version
of contact lenses.
The extended wear lenses are now disposable. Thus there is no risk of
continuing with infected lenses. You can easily dispose it after use.
These disposable lenses are healthier than the older version of lenses.
The regular disposal of contact lenses will not allow any foreign body
to build on the lenses and thus will give you comfortable and healthy
eyes.

eye.
